Hand Artisan Collective
At Threads, heritage is not referenced—it is respected. Our Hand Artisan Collective is dedicated to preserving Tanjavur (Tanjore) art, one of South India’s most revered classical art forms, by thoughtfully translating it onto fabric. Created by skilled artisans, each piece enables sacred art to transcend walls and become an integral part of lived tradition. Our Mission
We exist to ensure that Tanjavur art continues to live, move, and endure. Through slow, intentional, non-profit artisan projects, we support traditional craftsmanship, uphold artisan dignity, and protect cultural authenticity. This is not fashion shaped by trends. It is heritage preserved as seva.A Living Legacy
Rooted in the Chola era and nurtured under the patronage of the Nayak and Maratha kings, Tanjavur art has always been an act of devotion. Its divine imagery, intricate detailing, and symbolic richness reflect prosperity, spirituality, and grace. By bringing this art onto fabric, we allow it to remain relevant— worn during rituals, celebrations, and moments of meaning—while staying true to its sacred origins.Artisan-Led, Non-Profit Work
Our artisan collections operate on a non-profit basis. Every piece is created in limited numbers and through pre-orders only, ensuring respect for the artisan’s time, skill, and process. All proceeds are directed toward sustaining traditional techniques, supporting artisan livelihoods, and funding future heritage-focused initiatives.Curated Artisan Projects
Each year, we undertake a small number of deeply considered projects, including:- Pongal – Tanjore Art Blouses
- Navarathiri – Navanayagigal Series
- Raja Ravi Varma Art on Fabric
